H/H Direct Mount Alder Super Strat Recommendations Please

Have a H/H direct Mount super Strat with locking trem, maple neck, rosewood board. Current pickups are DMZ Tone Zone bridge and Air Norton neck. Both of these pickups have way too much output for me. I like to get my distortion from pedals and my amp. Not my pickups. The Tone Zone seems to have some "fake" distortion sounds in the background. The Air Norton doesn't have a nice top end on the high notes. Not with my rig anyway. Maybe this is just me.

I have a Marshall. I play neoclassical/shred style 80's guitar.

Looking for DMZ or SD Recommendations only. I'd rather not sell the guitar. Plays great! I just don't like these pickups. I like DMZ, just not these in this guitar.

Thanks!

Maybe one of the Satriani models like the MoJoe or Fred.

Move the Air Norton to the bridge and give it a try

I would check out a jazz model in the neck, should have a very nice, present, but sweet high end and track very well for articulate playing. A '59 trembucker is a pretty killer lower output P.A.F. voiced pickup that works great in super strats per my experience

Here's a very cool blog post from our very own forum mod Mincer where you can hear the '59 trembucker in action and read some more about it as well

Oh cool! The 59 is a good choice. If you want a little more power, but the same EQ, and very little compression, look at the next step up, the 59/Custom Hybrid.

The Air Norton was designed as a bridge pickup. John Petrucci started using it as a neck pickup with a hotter bridge model and everyone started following suit.

Here's the Air Norton in the position it was originally meant for:
