H-S-H pickup recommendations for all mahogany neck thru

These are stock photos from Rondo's website....but I have both guitars! In the natural colored one, I have a JB in the bridge, classic stack + in the middle, and a Jazz in the neck. In the red one I have a Full shred in the bridge, Fast track 1 in the middle, and an Air Norton in the neck. I currently can only play thru modellers (1 year old and wife gotta sleep!) and I'm using a Digitech GNX3000....straight to mixer. There's nothing wrong with the pickups in either guitar. I play mainly metal and blues....was just wondering what others would put in these guitars!

in my ibanez HSH (a 540s from almost 20 yrs ago) i put a 59n - duckm - C5b ... i'd replace the duck with a vintage rails if i had to do it over again, but otherwise love the tone i get from it

i've always wanted to try a guitar like this with the PATB series to see what results would be

how do you compare / contrast your two, tonally?

Re: H-S-H pickup recommendations for all mahogany neck thru

It's kinda hard to compare tonally playing thru a digital modeller! I noticed a bigger difference with lower output pickups in the bridge and neck. Originally, the natural colored one had a Screamin Demon in the bridge, middle and neck still the same (I may switch it back in a week or so!) The red had a PAF in the neck and the Air Norton was in the bridge (fast track 1 in middle). In general...I think I prefer lower output pickups because they're clearer under heavy gain. With higher output pups, I have to fiddle with things a bit more! I also think the Dimarzio's sound a little flat and lifeless in these all mahogany neck thru's (especially the PAF in the neck). The fast track 1 sounds decent in the middle, and I wasn't really impressed with anything Dimarzio in the bridge. Again, it may just be what I'm playing thru (GNX 3000).....but the Duncans seem to sound more "alive" and have more sparkle! I'm interested in trying some GFS pickups....heard good things about them!

cool
i didnt realize they were neck thru (didnt look into it close enough)
my ibby HSH is bolt on

i dont play with much gain - mostly blues and classic rock .. but when i was playing gainy fusion back in the day (when that guitar was new :D ) i liked how it warmed up the tone and gave better clarity under gain - the 59n sustains for days

I am currently debating over what to put in the one in my signature line

oh yea mine both have basswood bodies which may make a difference in the sound of the dimarzios
