H-S-S combination (comments please)

ok so im ordering my pickups tommorow for my strat build.
ASH w/maple top body + maple neck w/ebony fretboard

after visiting several forums (this is hte best one) and deciding and re-deciding numerous times...this is my final decision until i click "buy it now" tommorow UNLESS you guys say so otherwise

SSL2 RWRP (Middle)
APS2 (neck)

wiring up the custom custom to coil tap on volume push/pull

im after the clean glass/bell/SRV "lenny" sound in neck and neck+mid position.

my buddy and i are redoing his strat to those EXACT same specs. i spent a good week or so nailing it down, i think you'll be quite happy with what uve picked!

Really? awesome!

...do the pickups work well with the bright materials (ash + Ebony)
im guessing the tone will be snappy bright espesh with the ebony fret board.

how do the pickups sound in his guitar for
pos 1 - neck
pos 2 - neck + mid
pos 3 - middle
pos 4 - middle + Custom Custom
pos 4 - middle + Custom Custom (split)
pos 5 - Custom Custom (split)
pos 5 - Custom Custom

im interested in how the APS and SSL sound combined and the SSL and the CustomCustom combined.

The slug coil of the CC and a standard (6.00-6.50K) strat single coil would work very well. Both for the middle/bridge(split) tones and neck/bridge(split) tones.

i wish there was a 6 way switch designed for this config, that way you wouldnt need the additional switch for the tap. i find that the custom (series) + mid position is okay, but when you use the stuf coil and the middle pickup, you never want to turn back

Me personally, I would have an APS-1 in the middle too but the SSL-1 will be nice too, with some more top end.

Now, what value pots will you be using? The reason I ask is the CC *might* be little dark with 250k. But, since you're going ash body, maple neck and ebony fingerboard, it should be OK. Try it out and go from there.

ive asked this question before but didnt get a proper answer...

do i need pickup covers for hte ASP and SSL single coils???

im undecided on the pots yet...i think i may have to look for wiring kit...maybe 250k volume push pull and 2x 250k tone pots.

ive sent an email to lewsguitars...so i ve half ordered the pickups.
also ordered a fender 05 bridge and some wilkinson tuners as well from ebay as well... cant wait.

well just got email from lew...turns out he doesnt have the SSL2 RW RRP only SSL1s

i ended up going with

i just slapped the guitar together to see how it would look like and i have already encountered a dilema!!!
when the neck is flush in the neck pocket...the gap between the overhanging fretboard and the body is too small to let the pickguard slide in underneath !!!

should i put the pickguard in place and put the neck in (it wont be flush on the pocket) and draw the outline on the pickguard where hte fret board overhangs...then sand down the pickguard???
