Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Rainmaker

I read in the other cheap copy's of the Les Paul thread, that the Monaco Elite (and the Studio Custom was mentioned to) were alternatives that beat the Les Paul but costed less?

I'm browsing the Musicians Friend website and it's apparent that the Hamers are more expensive than the Gibbys... by about $200

I'm new to this whole pricing system, can anyone comment for me?

Thanks

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Personally I would not go to somewhere like MF to look at prices. I would check out either e-bay or other dealers who would give you far better deals. IMO the Hamers will take Gibbys apart both in construction, quality and consistency and you will not find a bad one. Check out my Hamer guitars in my signature and then judge for yourself.

One of the good Hamer dealers around is Greg from BCR who is a great guy and will see you right, check his link below:

Another place is Acoustic Axis who also trade on e-bay and also deals:

Just remember, you get what you pay for !

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Go to Ebay, do a search for Hamer, and then look for a nice USA made one. You'll find them for about 1/2 of retail. Hamers can be great guitars. I love my Monoco...I play it more than I do my Les Paul 59RI Historic. Lew

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Lew, do you find the superpro to be less neck heavy than your r9, same or more? Just wondering since I love Hamers but my studio is just too neck heavy. I don't have any Hamers in my area to try. Thanks.

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

I didn't even know Musicians Friend sold Hamers. If you really want a new one, buy it through a dealer, as you'll get a much better price. On the used market, you can typically pick up a good Hamer Studio for about half the price of a used Les Paul. I know it sounds like I'm just bashing Gibson, but honestly, Hamer's quality runs circles around Gibson's. You don't always get what you pay for, and in the case of Gibson and Hamer, I would say the Hamer buyer usually gets a better guitar for less money.

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Hello Hello--
I have and use two older Hamers [1991 Archtop and a 1982 Flying V] and they are the BEST humbucking-equipped guitars I've ever owned. Every newer Hamer that I've played [and that's ALOT] beats a new Gibson hands-down.

Hamers are only meant for the discerning guitarist :headbang: :bad:

are the hamer imports any good?? the archtop quilttop looks nice.

I wouldn't quite put them up there with the American models, but I would definitely buy one over an Epiphone any day. For the money, the Hamer imports are good guitars, as are the import PRS models.

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Make sure you are comparing so called aples with apples - you may be looking at prices for something like a Les Paul Studio vs. a Hamer Monoco elite in which case the Hamer sould be more expensive - however the hamer is on the level with gibsons
top guitars which cost an arm and a leg because of the letters pressed into the headstock - The Hamers don't have a gibson like history to rest there hat on so they still have to rely on top quality and workmanship where as Gibson has fallen asleep at the wheel ----- In my humble opinion
Short and Sweet - Hamer's rock

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

P.S. - there is a noticable increase in quality between the USA Hamers and the non USA one's

Re: Hamer more exp. than Gibson?

Also - Check out Dean guitars. They make an explorer body, and their quality is way up there also....way above Gibby IMO.
