Hamer Sunburst Archtop Quilt

Today I found out that an old guitar teacher of mine opened his own music store. I went in and found out he is a Hamer dealer, so I tried one out. I enjoyed the guitar and I read they are quality guitars. I would like to hear some pros and cons of this guitar or some of the forum member's experiances with this guitar!

Thanks for the feedback in advance. :saeek:

Re: Hamer Sunburst Archtop Quilt

Are you referring to the American-made Hamers, or the Korean imports?

I've played a Korean Hamer before. It was comfortable and had a great feeling neck.

I think they're about 400 USD or so. I'd really like to get one myself. Love the body shape too

che' sexy!

Aren't the Korean made ones under the name Shamer made by Hamer?
The one I'm talking about is this one -> http://hamerguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=901&sid=185#

Shamer, that's funny...good name for some of the import guitars out there. :laugh2:

The guitar you're referring to is the Korean version of the Hamer USA Studio. It's actually a decent guitar for the money, but if I were you, I would strongly recommend a used USA model. It won't run you much more than a new Korean model. Typically, the used Hamer USA Studios go for $600-$700. If you buy a new Korean model at that store, you'll probably pay $400-$500. I think it's worth saving up for an American model, I firmly believe American-made Hamers are the best guitars money can buy. Better than PRS, infinitely better than anything Gibson makes.

But if you like the Korean model and it plays and sounds great, that's certainly not a bad purchase. Forum member Jeff_H has one, he seems to like it. If you do go that route, get one on Ebay rather than at a store, you'll save about $200. I see them on Ebay going for $300 all the time.

Here's a pic of mine...it's showing a few battle scars, but it's an amazing guitar, much better than any Les Paul I've tried.

It can be tough to differentiate between the US and import models, because they do look similar. The US models all have "Hamer USA" on the headstock, whereas the imports just say "Hamer." Also, the imports have nickel covered pickups, while US models with the stock pickups will have a black bridge pickup and a zebra neck pickup, as shown in the picture above.

I have an import Hamer sunburst archtop in blue. It's really quite a nice guitar, just not my style after having it for a while. It's actually for sale. $399 with a Distortion/59' set, or $300 with the Duncan Designed Distortion Set.
