Attended my first day of a one week intensive course at Jeff Berlin'sschool today. Somebody had on eof the new handwired tweed Fender Twins there. I got to play throuhg it a bit and then got to hear my teacher play my R9 through it AND after school, got to hear Rick Derringer play a PRS hollow body through it. MONSTER amp, my friends. incredible tone and it did not fart out with buckers even with the bridge turned up pretty good.

I saw Cream at the Garden last year and EC had 4 of them, each setup slightly different. They sounded awesome. Great amp. Then again he could play thru a Gorilla amp and make it sound great!

Welcome to the joys of handwired old tweed amps. You can now understand why a bunch of go ape-sh*t crazy about them all the time.

I have been told that even if they sound eactly alike, the one advantage that a handwired amp has is greater ease of maintenence and repair. You don't have to tear the whole thingapart to fix it or replace an entire circuit board.

Exactly---you can get to just about everything (except the transformers) on a 5E8A and the smaller tweeds by removing the back panels. Only the big box Twin and the 5F6A have cap cans. OTOH, working in the chassis can get a little cramped, especially around the filter caps and tube sockets...

Re: handwired tweed Twin....SHAZAAM!!!

I took my 54 strat RI to school today and plugged in to DA TWIN!!! Sounded great, but i think that the Les Paul sounded better, which suprised me a bit. The Strat was super smooth, but, to my ears, it didn't quack as much on the notch positions as it does with the blackface Deluxe RI or the 18w. Interesting.....i have heard many people say that the tweeds are the ultimate match for Fender guitars, but me and everyone else thought that this one sounded incredible with humbuckers both in my R9 and Rick Derringer's PRS.......well, then again, Rick is gonna sound like Rick, so maybe not an objective example:bigok:
