So I’ve had my eye on one of these for awhile, but the other day I noticed the coupons for 15% off didn’t kill the financing options, plus I had almost $130 in points.

So in the mail came this:

I’ve only played it a short time but it feels nice, the cutaway is great and it came loaded with a jazz and JB.

It’s on the heavier side. I’m bringing it out tomorrow to see how it sounds, but I’ll probably pull the JB for something in the custom family.

So far I am very impressed.

Very pretty. What sort of bridge is that?

It is an EverTune, it has a spring arm and some balance mechanism for each spring that keeps the string at the tension you set it at. Upsides are it never goes out of tune and it sounds more in tune at different chords up the neck.

You can drop tune, but you will lose the in tune ability. If you plan on leaving it in a drop setting they make a other tension modules.

I have it set at the hi end of the 2nd zone so I can still bend, when it bends out of range it hits the backstop so it allows the note to change.

I haven’t noticed any extraneous noise yet, I will compare with my standard les Paul for any loss of sustain, I doubt I will hear much live with my wireless setup and gating.

If I need to do a song in drop d I’ll drop it but for a bunch of songs I’ll bring a backup in d. For a 3-4 hour set it’s great. I won’t even have to check it.

Re: Happy NGD

Looks beautiful.

The top is some exotic wood or is it a special finish ?

It’s a quilted maple top, I’m not sure if it’s just a veneer or a full cap. The burst job looks great and the finish is very nice. It really shows off the quilt though.

These are going for at least 300 less than the studio les Paul I was looking at and are much nicer looking. It’s not a real eclipse model but I haven’t seen any of those with the EverTune yet.

It’s a nice place to try the EverTune before I spend the $450+ to put one in my lp standard.

Likely both, a veneer over a plain maple cap?

Mangling a Gibson LP Std with an install of one of these seems shortsided.

The EverTune version for Gibson is a little different and the one’s I’ve seen done look pretty good. This one’s going on eBay right now:
