Hard Cases for Acoustics

With my new Seagull i bought not to long ago, i was thinking of getting a hard case to help avoid some of the minor scratches and such that my electrics have gotten over the years being packed in cars (and being younger).

Soft cases are lighter and have backpack straps, but i would rather have some extra protection and i have not used those straps in years.

What brands are a good bang for your buck for Dreadnought Acoustic Hard cases?

Has anyone tried those cheap-ish "Musician's Gear" hard cases? Are they sturdy? Or should i buck up to something like a Gator?

I got a Silver Creek case two years ago. It's pretty nice and was only around $80. They carry 'em at Guitar Center.

Yes, I bought a Musician's Gear case, and it was utter crap. It started falling apart on the first use. The tab to open the accessory compartment pulled right off the first time I opened it. I have little faith in this case, going the distance and being around for years. Gator would be a good way to go. Ibanez also makes great cases I got my acoustic case for $99.

Most people that buy Musician's Gear products tend to regret it check out the thread.

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

Go get a Tric case made by Godin (who makes seagull). You could drop that thing off your roof and there won't be any damage to the guitar. We tried this with an old ****ty acoustic at the store back in the day

Good to know, thanks

Tric and SKB seem nice as well, but a bit pricier. Not to mention not as cosmetically pleasing as a old plywood case.

I'm from the UK and I have a Hiscox hard-case, got it with the guitar when I bought it. Very sturdy and not too heavy.

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

If you are buying a case because of the way it looks, you're doing it wrong.

Function over fashion.

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

I picked up a Musicians Gear LP case a couple of months ago and it seems sturdy enough, although I have to admit that it's for a guitar that rarely leaves the house, so I haven't really put it through the paces. Still, it appears to be decently constructed and didn't have any of the obvious defects that others have had to deal with. Maybe I just got lucky! :dunno:

The best acoustic case I've ever owned is an Epiphone case that I picked up at a local pawn shop for $40. I was actually looking for something cheap for one of my "lesser" guitars and wound up making it the case for my #1 acoustic... go figure!

What about washburn cases? They look pretty sharp, and are reasonably priced.

Well a silver creek case is on the way, i found too many nice reviews to not buy it.

I hope its as nice as they say! [emoji14]

$70 shipped new isnt too bad for a nice wood case.

I've got what came with my Martin D-28. It's made by either SKB or TKL.

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

Did you see if Seagull makes a case for your specific style acoustic?

I recently bought a Used Taylor with a Grand Concert body. I wasn't happy with any case I saw at Guitar Center, so I bought the original deluxe hardshell by Taylor for the Grand Concert. it was pricey at $200, but it's built like a tank, hold the guitar like a glove, and with a humidifier put inside it offers amazing protection. However, it was a $1,000 guitar I got for $550, so the investment in the case was worth it to prevent the guitar from drying out

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

You might have trouble fitting the Seagulls into a standard dreadnought case, so check the fit. I think the body shape is slightly different. I would get the Seagull's case, but look into SKB, Gator and TKL molded cases.

Is that who makes the thermoplastic Martin cases? I ended up with that one instead of the chipboard style one for my HD-28V, and although it's ugly as sin, it's protective as hell!

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

I mean, seagulls aren't a different shape. My Seagull Dreadnought seems to match closely in every measurement i can find compared to martin's posted specs. I hope that won't be a problem
