Hard Cases for Acoustics

Re: Hard Cases for Acoustics

Is that who makes the thermoplastic Martin cases? I ended up with that one instead of the chipboard style one for my HD-28V, and although it's ugly as sin, it's protective as hell!

No kidding. I love the durability. The only issue I've had is the support strap on the inside that is connected to the two halfs at the headstock end came off one end. It was just hot glued to the inside of the case between the molding and the plastic. Gonna be fun getting that back in place.

I think the old blue (and then later black) Martin plastic cases from the 1970s were made by Samsonite. Not sure.

Later cases were from SKB; over the past few years they are from TKL.

I don't tour these days so I don't need an Anvil, but I really like Martin's 5-ply 545 TKL dreadnought case. They are heavy but very luxurious. Standard wih my HD-28V and the D-18GE; I upgraded to this case for four of my other Martins. There's nothing wrong with the plastic cases though, as they protect very well and have the advantage of light weight.

Well the silver creek dread case came and....well... it fits like a glove.

Fits snuggly without being needed to be forced at all to be put in. It seems sturdy as hell too, beats my decent violin/viola cases by a long shot. It even has a decent looking locking latch, which is a big plus.

Nice! Looks like it even has that "new case smell!"

The smell is much better than that Chinese plastic smell the packaging had. :)

I got a Silver Creek case two years ago. It's pretty nice and was only around $80. They carry 'em at Guitar Center.
Thanks to everyone who gave thier input. I think most any of these options would have been great!

And special thanks to Eclectricsynergy (and Securb too) for pointing out Silver Creek to me.
