Harmonics

I was wondering what it means when it's stated that a pickup produces great harmonics or the harmonics just jump out at you?

Are we talking about pinch harmonics or regular above fret harmonics or is it something else?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. :smack:

Not a dumb Q at all, my man!!

To ME, it means that when you're playing with the guitar fretted normally, you can hear or get artificial or natural occuring harmonics without lifting your left hand from the fretboard. This is certainly true with my Lynch guitars, which have Screamin' Demons.

ahh...I see. But how can a fretted note create a harmonic when you're holding down the actual note? Isn't it just the base note that is created? And how does a certain pickup enhance if there is a harmonic. Is there always a harmonic on fretted notes but they're not always audible?

The sensitivity.

I think I agree. To me it is those overtones you get. It's hard to put my finger on what those are, it's just that lushness and fullness sounding, and I agree that those Lynch recordings on "Under Lock and Key" had tons of harmonics. I get them really well with my Les Paul, (must be the mahogany/maple connection), but not so much with my Jacksons. Just my opinion, I don't know if it's the right answer.

Re: Harmonics

to me it means you're able to coax pinches and natural harmonics very easily, at least without too much work.

Re: Harmonics

Theres no such thing as a stupid question, not asking is.
