Has anyone bought any brand new Duncan single coils lately?

Hello,

Was wondering if anyone had bought any brand new single coil Duncan's lately, and if so, was the insulation all ready removed from the individual wires?

No I havent but, you location is too funny! LOL!!!

Re: Has anyone bought any brand new Duncan single coils lately?

I acquired a new Twangbanger recently (Thanks Evan!) and the insulation wasn't removed from the wires.

What difference does it make? It does work, does it not?

Re: Has anyone bought any brand new Duncan single coils lately?

I think this was more of a, "Just out of curiousity...." type of question, as he indicates nothing of the pickup's functionality.

I think its more of a "I think I may have a used pickup and want to complain about paying the price of a new one" thing which where the the comment came from. All those 21 day returns go somewhere. If it wasn't damaged, and functions fine, what difference does it make? That all I am posing for consideration

The 21 day returns are "recycled". I agree that whether it works is the largest consideration, but I would probably be less inclined to buy from a shop that resells used stuff for new prices.

Thanks guys, and both of you are correct. I think I bought a used pickup, but at the price of a new one. The bobbin looked mint, but the insulation was neatly removed and there was a piece of solder on the insulation. Shouldn't be a issue, but there was no 21 day warranty card and since I didn't care for the pick up, I was stuck. I ended up trading it to a friend, but still at a loss.

You don't need a card for the 21 day return. Just call Duncan and get an RMA. Secondly, I think its incredibly unfair to have no hesitation about using the 21 day policy and then take issue with what you paid for a fully functional mint condition pickup that was returned on that policy. If it was in like new condition whats the problem? It was sold as new and will be warrantied as such. That21 day policy cuts both ways. A lot of places won't honor the 21 day policy because they do have problems reselling it.

You are absolutely incorrect. It is completely unethical to sell a returned, used pickup as new. When someone takes advantage of the 21 day exchange, they can either exchange it at the place of purchase for another BRAND NEW pickup, or get an RMA# from SD direct and get a BRAND NEW pickup from the factory.

The "returned" pickup, assuming it went back to the place of purchase, would be returned to SD from the dealer for credit. I guess it could also be sold a USED, but NOT BRAND NEW.

The dealers that won't honor the 21 day exchange are not who I'd want to do business with. It has nothing to do with re-selling them because they can send the pickup back to SD for credit anyway. It stems to either being to lazy to do their job, or wanting to make the sale and forgetting to provide good customer service.

End of story.

This is exactly what my point is, Thanks Martin. When you open the box up and you start to see these little flaws, and then you notice the 21 day card not being in the box, it should raise a flag as this may not be brand new. It's not that I had planned on returning the questionable pup, its that I was mis-lead.

Insulation removed from wires? We're talking about the leads, right? It's just old school pushback wire, isn't it? What's the big deal?

That's the real point here, you need to have trust in who you are dealing with!!

I went to GC once to pick up a JB and the guy handed me one out of the case in a sealed box. I opened it right there in the store and it had cut and stripped leads and all the mounting hardware was missing. I handed it back to the guy, walked out and have never been back. They were knowingly trying to pass it off as a new pickup. Totally bogus business practice!!

The big deal is that the buyer intended on purchasing a brand new product, not a returned, used product. Granted, I hear what your saying. The pickup probably looked and worked fine, but thats besides the point. Whats right is right. Its either brand new or its not.

Also, just for the record, there is no warranty card that comes with the SD pickups. Your sales receipt is effective the date used for the 21 day exchange program.

Thanks Jon and Martin, I should have known better. Tried another online dealer, but I'll right it off as another lesson learned. I'll be giving both of you a call here in a couple weeks. Thanks again.
I meant the registration card was missing.
