Has anyone priced out DIY-from-scratch tube amp copies?

Re: Has anyone priced out DIY-from-scratch tube amp copies?

I really liked this one “The components you forgot in the first round of ordering: $XXX”, since I definitely ran into this one.

I apologize but has it even been determined what amp is being built?

Be sure to check out, and read the material from: www.ax84.com and www.18watt.com. Note that 18Watt changed their format. Look on the left side of the page for the "links". You may have to register, (for free), but there's great info and plans on both sites. AX84 probably leans more to beginner projects, but they're great amps when done.

I'm in the middle of building a pint-sized 12"(W)x9"(D)x4"(H) Mega LOUD 250 watt/8 Ohm high gain tube-SS hybrid of my own (way out :laugh2:) design from chinese parts/kits.

That is so friggin' sweet! Looks and tone. Did you build that cab? I love it.

When the shop in. China gets capacitors for its 10 thousand amp run
It buys them buy the pound

You will be buying one or two
Their margins are much different than yours

If you bought all the parts to build a car from a parts house
It would cost about 4 times the MSRP

Margins

The shipping for one resistor is probably as much as the resistor its self

Buy a Peavey Classic 30 used for 300 and be happy

Change the Tolex
Unbadge it
Rebrand it

Plug un and play

Thank you :beerchug:

I just bought it off the guy who built it..so, not my work at all. He made the whole thing himself with hand tools ..cabinet & all. It does sound and look pretty sweet.

I will post my own masterpiece (tube/SS hybrid) up later when/if I'm finally done with it.. unlike that little beauty up there, classy it is NOT :laugh2:

That's ok. We both have our unrequited masterpieces. Film@11. :beerchug:

Re: Has anyone priced out DIY-from-scratch tube amp copies?

I realize

Part of what I meant was some amps have more POTENTIOMETERS than other amps got COMPONENTS... total.

Also, while big companies can use cheaper and deeper discounted wholesale parts, hobbyists can scrounge and scavenge and salvage and repurpose

If you are willing to scrounge and salvage and repurpose you can build anything for next to nothing. Go for it!
