Has anyone tried an Ashdown Fallen Angel 60 head?

Just interested. They seem to have alot of features. I hear they are made in China and some (seems like mostly the 40) have some problems. Anyone hear or try one of these?

Re: Has anyone tried an Ashdown Fallen Angel 60 head?

I've got the combo...works fine imo...I want to put some better speakers in it but that doesn't really affect the head version, lol.

It's certainly like...weird

like...it doesn't "turn on" (start playing) until you hit the footswitch's channel button...and the effects sometimes are on without actaully being on...and none of the effects are listed anywhere, it's just 1-2-3, etc. lol

Aside from that it's pretty nice except the tone is really bland, I think that's the problem of the really crappy speakers (imo) in it though. Could use more gain too, but whatever. Dunno what else to say about it really.

. . . could not agree with you more on the "bland'ness" !!!

When i first decided to start testing valve amps, the Fallen Angel 60W Head was one of the very first ones to crioss my path (used off course) !
OK, in it's defence, the shop only had a crappy 4x12 Behringer cab to test it with, but the tone was in the same "world" as the ValveKing is to my ears, i.e. great value for money, but oh so bland compared to units just $200.00 more !!!

Oh, and i do not really liked the cosmetics either, so i gave it a skip !

The combo definitely looks way better than the head, that's for sure, lol! For the record I got mine for 480 bucks, MF is clearing them out methinks...$430 for the head. I think channel 1 sounds awesome, though. Also channel 2 is brighter when the boost is off I think...

here's mine:

I noticed that the speakers look kind of like Jensens, but they have like no mids compared to my randall so I hate them, I'm thining of putting some eminences in it: ...oh yeah, I hooked up my Randall's external speaker connection to the Ashdown's speakers and listened to them side by side, that's how I know that, lol.

This is an older thread I made on the combo version.

I now believe that with about $200 or even maybe $300 more you can get a much better amp IMO... You live in the USA, go check everything out!

btw I gave it a shot in the store... It was an OK amp...

But I liked his bigger brother... the 150 watt big brother! Nice amp...

I dialed a pretty good tone in today, can't record it but meh. For the price I think it's a pretty good amp, you just have to crank it up.
