Has Anyone Tried Neodymium Speakers?

I'm really curious about these, particularly the Celestion Century Vintage, because of their high efficiency and low weight. If they sound good it would be a great way to cut down on the amount of weight that has to be hauled to and from gigs. However, I'm worried about the tone, since not a lot of people seem to use them. Has anyone tried them out, and if so, what was your opinion?

I tried the Eminence Lil Texas which is a neo speaker...I felt like it did sound different from the Texas Heat (which is the same speaker in a ceramic magnet) but not night and day different and not bad.

They are loud and they are super light which is very nice!

That is really tempting. I've been playing with a 15watt, open-back combo, and it's just barely not as loud as I'd like it to be (just a little bit dirtier than I'd like at gigging volume). Losing almost three pounds of speaker weight would just be icing on the cake.

Re: Has Anyone Tried Neodymium Speakers?

Used the Century. 2 different configs, 1 was in a 2x12 cab the other my old 2x12 XXX combo. I felt they were way too harsh sounding regardless of setting, not quite brittle sounding but there was a very unnatural edge to the sound which especially on the highs and high mids was unacceptable.

To me it sounded like they were a test speaker that got out of the factory before they were ready. I have not tried the vintage version. I have heard that model addressed some of the issues I had but they were so far from what I wanted I have no desire to hunt them down to find out.

My experience with Neos(Neodogs) in my Vox cab.....Efficient,loud,bright,tight,and immediate...Didn't care for them and replaced with V30s..

i like the neo bass speakers that i have, eminence ch2010 or something like that. i think it too a while for designers to get it right but the eminence and weber neo mag speakers that ive tried were pretty good.
