i plan on saving up for it next after watching that video online. that thing does some awesome stuff. has anyone tried the zvex fuzz factory? i'm looking for my own unique, but still good, sound and i think that'll let me get there! has anyone tried these as far as reliability and what not. and how they sound in person. i'm getting the vexter version as i don't feel like paying $60 more for a paint job :D
here's the bottom line: how reliable are they and do they sound as cool as they do in the video: fuzz factory video

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

Some people complain that they cannot get those sounds on the video, but if you just have you amp set on clean and do what the sample settings on the box are, youll get something close. This is a germanium fuzz unit, very unpredictable and the guitar will affect the tone a lot. The normal settings on that are very similar to a Big Muff tone, but Zack Vex claims that he didnt make it to clone or remake any sounds.

The thing has a LOT of gain on hold. You cant put the volume about 9 oclock without it sounding like somethings going to break. Its really hard to dial in useable sounds. You kinda have to leave the stab knob and the comp knobs in one spot for the most part. My guitar teacher got the Vexter one and doesnt really use it too much. It is a little impractical and hard to dial in. Its a very good pedal dont get me wrong. You really have to acquire a taste for it thought. Good luck with it if you get it.

But what it sounded like you wanted before, like a Jimmy Page fuzz sound, you should definitely consider the Fulltone Soul Bender. Its kind of a clone of the fuzz pedals that he used, very good for lead. Just some suggestions for something that will give you what you want, and that you might use more. Go on the Fulltone website and listen to the sound clip of the Soul Bender. They got some other cool pedals too. Just some suggestions... The Fuzz Factory is a very good pedal too.

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

i was thinking about the jimmy page sound but i then i thought "i need my own sound, something that screams 'that's marc's sound'!"
edit: you see what you've done. now i'm unsure, again! i think i'm gonna stay with the fuzz factory

Okay, if you want your own sound, then the fuzz factory is a great option. If you are serious about finding your own sound, then just take a week...or more and screw with the knobs. Start with your favorite sample setting on the box and adjust them very slightly and keep going!

time to get down to saving :D:banana:    :27:
edit: i've got 40 bucks already. why pay an extra $60 for a paint job? the vexter is the way to go!

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

Its actually more like an extra $110 extra for the paint...The normal one is like 270, the vexter is $160. Make sure you are not getting robbed.

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

yeah i didn't check the prices on the regualar series....
is musictoyz.com okay? i found it off guitargeek
actually i got 170 on vexter and 240 on the regular at musictoyz.com

O yea, I thought it was 270 for the regular. I think 270 is for other pedals. No matter. Musictoyz is a really good site.

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

so they are safe to deal with? by mid summer i should have that pedal in my hands. maybe sooner. and judging by what you said my hands will be screwing with those controls for quite a bit. that's my life story...

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

Excellent pedal. But an incredible number of settings that dont sound like a fuzz pedal. Be prepared for a lot of tweaking. There are loads of sample settings on the internet.

Sounds rather useful if I need to sound like someone else lol :D

are you joking?!?!?!?!! i think this thing is totally unique, to an extent. that velcro fuzz is amazing

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

If you want to make a bunch of annoying noises, it would work...

Seems more like a toy than something you would actually get any use out of though.

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

I had an early one as well as a Fuzz Probe and a Seek Wah...all 3 of which are gone. They were all very cool boxes but finding a place to use them is tough and with the Fuzz Factory (and the Fuzz Probe moving one control the thickness of a sheet of paper makes a drastic tonal change...very hard to use in a way but very useful in others.

If you are looking for a "go to" use everyday kind of fuzz I woudl NOT get the Fuzz Factory but that said there is nothing really wrong with it and it does make some very different sounds.

LOL I was just playing :D Yeah, I'm tempted to get one, especially for the velcro fuzz sound. I'm thinking up a song about velcro (think Frank Zappa :D)

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

i think i would use all the sounds. after this the nanoamp :D
i'm hooked on zvex :D
all of their stuff is so cool. a .1watt tube amp, .5 watt when overdriven. what could get better than that?

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

that's next after the fuzz factory! and one of the best parts (besides the sound) is that it's $425 (from musictoyz.com). i might just get that instead of the fuzz factory, then i'll get the fuzz factory :D
i think it uses a 12au7 in the power....

Re: has anyone tried the fuzz factory

I have one an I am very happy with it. I have one from 2000, and I've been told that the older ones like mine sound better. You can get a lot of sounds from it from bizarre to noice to fuzz and metal or even dirty clean. What most people don't realize is that you need to have it immediatly after your guitar or else the ocilation effects you get from playing with the stab and drive won't work. Also, once you use this pedal your volume knob on your guitar becomes essential. Having it on 10 all the time gives you a muddy super fuzz sound, but as you back off the volume you gain clarity. So if you turn it doswn to 4 you have a semi-clean sound that is very useful for sparkly slightly dirty parts. This way you can go from heavy distortion to relatively clean quickly and with little volume loss. Also, this little fuzz monster likes tube amps. I've played it through several solid state garbage boxes and it sounds like **** no matter how much bass you at to it. The line6 amp suck anyway but this makes it unbearable. Even my ampeg bass amp doesnt like this thing too much. It takes more tweaking, but then again, if you dont like tweaking knobs all the time and playing with your EQ why do you play guitar at all?
