Has anyone tried these? Over-hype or do they live up to the hype?

Fender is pushing these Fat 50's "hand wound" in the custom shop. Has anyone tried these? $499.99 per set! They would have to be really really good at that price point to get me to jump.

Also I believe they only come as middle pickup RW/RP, which at one time was a selling point to me. However, I have a couple sets of D. Allen's that aren't RW/RP middle and I kinda dig it. I think the noise cancelling/ humbucker affect of the RW/RP middle is over blown a bit, and the non RW/RP pups I have just sound in the in between positions. If you are into that quack sorta thing. Plus if you call them fat 50's; in the 50's they weren't RW/RP, just sayin.....

Anyway, what do you guys think?

With Abigail Ybarra’s (well deserved) retirement, it feels like Fender needed another pickup legend in the CS. They’ve been pushing Josefina Campos as her heir.

The best way to establish her is to ship some expensive pickups and market JC as already being a legend.

That’s my “business” take.

From a musical POV Fat50s are not my thing, handwound or not.

Also AFAIK handwound means that they are wound in a machine by hand but still in a machine. Does the video and thumbnail makes it look like it’s literally by hand?

In the video you see her using a winding machine. I think the "hand wound" term gets tossed around for effect but I think most people know its a machine doing the winding.

hand guided is more accurate but almost no one actually handwinds pups, even the people that do dont do it frequently.

for that price, id call the duncan custom shop and mj will wind you whatever your little heart desires
