Has the Peavey Vypyr 30 Combo gotten any better?

I have a Line 6 Spyder III and just happend to browse the web and saw that Peavey makes a modeling amp now. (I'm behind in the times). I read back in 2008 and 2009 about how these amps were breaking down and that the quality control was really bad for these amps. I was considering getting one to replace my Line 6. Does anybody know if the quality has gotten better for these amps since then? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I know people who own them and haven't had any problems... I thought the problems originated from the pedal that you could buy for it. There was something wrong with the pedal I thought... dunno...

You should get tubes though... They sound nice. :naughty:

I have a vypyr 15. A amazing practice amp. I've never heard modeling distortion quite like this, it is incredibly realistic, but a little noisy. I would never use a vypyr for anything other than practice, mainly because they don't have an effects loop, the foot controller is really expensive, and they don't sound as convincing at high volumes. Regarding the durability, I have had zero issues and I throw it in the trunk for road trips and play with it, drunkenly, outside on my deck, usually banging it on accident when I bring it in/outside. If something went wrong though, it's not like a tube amp and would probably require some expensive work done to fix it.

I had a Vypr 15 for a few months and it sounded like pure fizz to me, horrible sound. Nothing beats a vox valvetronix IMO for practicing, at a low cost.

I tried a L6 Spider IV and was impressed with the tones, it was cool little amp for sure.

The spider's have really improved from the III series to the IV series. I also have found them easier to dial in than the Vypyr series. Now that being said, there was a recent thread that mentioned the Fender Mustang series of modeling amps. I just got to try one yesterday....... and I liked it. It really had a nice full sound. Its in the same price range as the Vypyr and Line 6 amps and well..... for me, my ear and gadget fetish leads me back to the Line 6 spider IV's.... I will be getting the combo 2x12 150 watt version. I have been saying that for the last 3 months and keep buying other items. Just acquired the EH Ring Thing and I am having a ball with it. Now as others have said, tubes are a different animal and I also own a Mesa Express 1x12 5:25 and love it. However, when it comes to modeling, I am a Line6 type of guy.

Now if I can just get EmptyPockets to chime in about how much he hates Line 6 spider amps, this thread will be complete. :bling:

spiders are weak and buzzy

vypyrs are harsh and digital

the fender mustang is awesome and gives you way more features for the money, being the newest one.

you'd be way better off getting a real amp.

tried your store's digidesign 11 rack demo unit today - bassy, distant, and pod-ish. just sayin'.
