Have I been 'spoilt' by my Orange amp?

Hey guys.

I received my Modded Vox Wah from John (Stratdeluxer97) today, and quickly rushed upstairs to try it out :)

I plugged in my Marshall JTM60 (It's my only 'proper' amp I can use at home when other people are in ;)) and plugged the Wah in to try it out.

The clean channel of the amp sounded very 'Bland' and 'Flat', which didn't provide a good enough testbed for me to try the wah to it's full potential :( The sound of the amp surprised me because (until tonight) I always liked this amps clean tone.

The Orange head I recently bought has a gorgeous clean sound. It's very full sounding, and has kind of a 'shimmer' to it that I've not noticed in many other amps.

Has the sound of the Orange spoilt my ears against the sound of the Marshall, or has the Marshall clean never been that good but I didn't have anything better to compare it to until now?

I know this is not really a question that anyone can answer, but I just thought I'd see what you all thought anyway :)

Yep, that's what happened. I can't even enjoy one thing in Guitar Center or Sam Ash for that reason......well, maybe a few things that are hung up high outta reach. LOL

Don't know but how good is your orange head?

It's the best Clean/Crunch amp I've ever used :) It's very warm, and full sounding.

Hey Craig,

I didn't want to let the cat out if the bag quite yet, but...... I plugged into my brand spankin' new Orange AD30HTC & matching cab w/Celstion V30s for the first time today. Les Paul Classic (Ebony,if you care) w/Duncan Distortions, straight in the ole' head. Played for an hour straight, with a huge ass grin that I have only achieved before from some sort of mushroom :saeek: This IS THE BEST AMP I have ever played, granted, it was only a short test drive if you will, but I am so thouroughly & completely stoked about my tone that I'll probably dream about it. I'm sorry Brow, bro, what was it you said? :) Updates to follow!!!

Peace,

Darrin

We should start a club or something :laugh2:

I think I have been a bit spoiled by my Orange.. I can still respect the cleans on a nice old Fender though. :32: No doubt some of the nicest I've ever heard. The only drawback to the AD30 is that it can't stay THAT clean at gig volumes. (Not necessarily a bad thing, though)

Re: Have I been 'spoilt' by my Orange amp?

what are the ballpark price range for these?.........im talkin used

Re: Have I been 'spoilt' by my Orange amp?

Yeah I'd like to know what you guys paid for your oranges? :) Whenever I see them on ebay they're 1000+ like just for the cabinet used it seems. Who deals them, I know guitarcenter doesn't, at least the one in Saint louis..lol

Hi Darrin,

That's awesome mate :D

That's exactly the same way I felt when I first got the chance to crank mine a little too ;)

As for prices, my Orange AD30 head was £360 and my 70's Orange 4x12 cab was £130, as it's been badly painted black and had a Marshall badge put on it. Now I have an Orange head I'm thinking about restoring the cab back to it's original state :)

this is the last thread i needed to read....

mmmmmm.......Oranges.... :32: :32: :32:

Re: Have I been 'spoilt' by my Orange amp?

Yes, you have been "spoilt."

Class A amps are much more detailed and dimensional when it comes to clean and moderate overdrive tones.

I'm that way with the Bogner Metropolis and Soldano SLO-100. The clean channel on the SLO does not compare to the Metro's cleans and overdriven tones.

The Soldano can't do the cleans. But, the Metro can't really do the distortion thing like an SLO. Nothing does what an SLO-100 does in that category. Sometimes it seems like a dilemma... if I had to keep one, which one would it be?

I saw an Orange AD15 with 2 Celestion Blues for $850. It was on another forum...

you keep them both, no questions asked. I think there are a few of us that have been spoiled by our amps.

Sorry Hoss but all these things rock.

I bet that sounds good with the rest of your gear. I can't wait for a full review.

Re: Have I been 'spoilt' by my Orange amp?

Do they make an Orange combo with the speaker and controls and tubes all in one?

Re: Have I been 'spoilt' by my Orange amp?

Yeah you got spoiled man!

I think that happens with everyone once they find a particular peice of gear thats juuuuuust right for them... does everything they'd like it to do and delivers the tone in spades! After that nothing else quite seems to be up to par.

Hey Scott,

How ya doing buddy? Hope all is well with you. Yeah, I can't wait to go thru the amp with my Antiquity loaded LP & Strat. Throw my Spina-modded TS9 in the mix & I may only come out for food & a leak. :laugh2: I'm just getting my Music/Computer room put back together. I just painted it this week & it looks sweet (Schooner Blue). Purdy. So, I'm slowly moving stuff back in and extensive jamming will ensue. I'll be sure to give some updates soon. What I've gotten out of it so far, in the short period I've had to play it, just friggin' blows my mind. Seriously, I can't believe the pure, unadultrated tone I'm gettin' out of this puppy. And I haven't even started to break the speakers in yet. Next step is to brush up the chops and see how this baby looks on a stage. :headbang: Talk wit ya' soon.

Peace,

Darrin
