Hi, i have just replaced an ibanez inf4 humbucker pickup with a duncan sh12 screamin demon in an ibanez rg with a 5 way selector switch and 1 vol and 1 tone control.

after replaciing the pickup it doesn't sound quite right. have i wired it wrong?

i have enclosed a diagram of before and after. The inf4 had 3 wires but the duncan had 5!! why do they make pickups with different colour codes etc etc

the light grey line is actually the white wire, thanks

i might not be the guru the others are, but i can usually mess around with stuff enough till it works. try switching the red/white wires with the black one....couldnt hurt right?

When you say "not quite right", do you mean when used by itself, or when used with the other pickups? Also, could you tell us what year and the exact model of your RG. That way, I can look up the diagram. I did look up a generic RG, and your wiring looks ok otherwise.

Hi, when i mean it doesn't sound quite right i mean on its own. It just doesn't quite sound like it is in full humbucker mode. I have never used this pickup before so it could be the way it is supposed to sound but it sounds very weak and twangy like a single coil.

its an rg370dx 2006 model although there are no wiring diagrams for the 2006 model there are for the 2007 models.

bare in mindthe ibanez pickups only have 3 wires coming from them whereas the duncans have 5

so nobody on the seymour duncan forum knows how to wire a seymour duncan pickup?

what brand of pickup are you all using?

Hey Rick; Part of the problem, (with people answering you), is two-fold. Often, when folks see that I've responded to a wiring question, they leave it alone, assuming that I have it covered. The problem with that, (these days), is that I'm working 10-hour-days/6-days-a-week until we can get caught up from our new 3 million-dollar air conditioner install. Add to that - I'm helping a friend get his car ready for "Pinks" coming up next week. I designed and built the 2-stage NOS system for it and its taking what little spare time I have.

But I digress . . . :D

It looks to me like you connected the pup correctly. Duncan black goes to Ibby white. Duncan red/white goes to Ibby red, and Duncan green/bare go to Ibby shield.

Just double-check everything to make sure you have good solid solder connections. I'm not sure what else to suggest, since it looks good in your first diagram.

Re: have i wired this pickup correctly? (diagram included)

why are the red/white going to switch instead of just a series connection to each other?

Auto-split in the notch position. The bridge would split to a single in the bridge/middle position.

in my diagram though duncan black is not going where the ibanez white was. should i swap the duncan black around with the red/white?
