Having second thoughts about using the brass "big" block on my floyd

I had heard that the Big brass block helps give a fuller tone to the floyd rose which after buying one and goin by these clips found out really does.

but what i did not take into consideration is the pickup in the guitar.
I use tone zones, air zones and BBQ pu's in the bridge spot and with the addition of the big block it is just too much fullness. I also tried the big block with a duncan CC and way too much depth no top end detail.
I can see a thinner sounding pu really benefiting from these blocks like a 59 or a screamin demon.
I will stay with the stock 42mm brass that comes with the OFR's for these "bigger" sounding pu's/

I really think the Bigger Block is beneficial in every possible way. I know what you are saying, that the block may seem to kill some of the resonance and acoustics that are present on , say, a smaller steel fender block, but added mass on the Floyd Rose , by design can only be a good thing. If you want a brighter tone , then look at Titanium, which is very costly, but the thin stock brass block, even though it can appear more acousticly hollow, and sometimes we think that sounds better, but IMO is in the end, a thinner, less harmonically complex ,sustain robbing and brittle sound.

I Love the improvement running the big blocks. I was excited by the improvement when I simply blocked my edge on my RG with a piece of wood. But the big blocks are great. And everytime I see one, I think : "OMG, why didnt I think of that??" .
Most noticable was my Charvel.. It just freaking rings like a LP..

If I had a guitar where I was running a big sounding pup like a Tone zone, Id probably lower the pup alil to compensate for the additional tonal "girth".

I've run a brass big block with a Tone Zone, fantastic. If low end becomes too much lower the pickup a smidge. It's all good! ;)

I have 3 Floyded guitars. Two of them have a big block. The other one is bright.

The only reason I haven't gotten a bigblock for the 3rd one is that it has a Washburn bridge (Schaller copy) which makes it a little trickier to order plus she came with the Alt 8 pre-loaded which gives her plenty of low-end from the pickup's end.

Nevertheless, a big block will simply give more tone, not just more lows but also more highs, just not as much. It really opens the sound up, like taking off the muffler from the guitar.

I haven't had a big block on a floyd, but going from a steel block to the KGC brass block on an am std trem the extra push in the lows and low mids kinda made the El Diablo too much. A DD would have been much better after the block change.

I still haven't decided if I want to try a big block on my Kelly.

I've got a 42mm brass big block on my NT Warlock with a Duncan Distortion. It sounds full and thick, but still defined.

The 37mm brass block on my Washburn Dime 333 helped balance out the lows and mids with the bright highs of the Dimebucker.

The biggest improvement I have had is actually with a 37mm COPPER block that I got on ebay. It went into a ply basswood bodied B.C. Rich platinum Virgin. Considering the plywood body and the EMG-81, the copper block added so much thump and body to that guitar. It also added a nice weighty feel to the body that the guitar did not have previously.

All of that being said, I have had great results with brass & copper big blocks, but I tend to use brighter, high output ceramic pickups in the bridge position. Your mileage may vary.

I have yet to try one out. Wanted to for years now. Gotta get on that ish.

I'm trying to buy one now. I ordered one off of ebay from a guy that makes them. That was 2 weeks ago, hopefully I'll get it soon. It's going on a TRS-101 that's going into a Charvel model 2. It's going to be a Jack Butler copy as soon as I can come up with the correct neck. I'm hoping it sounds good with the Screamin Demon and the Paf Pro that's going to be in it when I route the body.
