Born on this date (13 April), 1955, in Los Angeles CA, USA.
Both he and fellow bassist Larry Graham are credited with being early proponents of the "slap" technique.
Here he is with Stanley Clarke (Louis in the left channel, Stanley in the right channel, Alphonso "Slim" Johnson [no relation] with the auto-wah)
An album track that should have been released on its own. It would have been a 3 bass hit!
He and his brother, guitarist George Johnson, were signed up to A&M Records and produced by Quincy Jones.
He played on Michael Jackson's multi-million sellers, "Off The Wall" and Thriller".
Here he is, co-writing "Get On The Floor" with Michael, and utterly hurting the bass.
He became a well-regarded sideman for anyone that wanted some deep, hard funk.
Here is one of the album cuts where he gets to stretch out on a solo.
