2014 edit:
The guy who took his bass clarinet lessons and put them to good use on a Fender Jazz turns 55 today, the 14th of June.
Marcus and Larry Graham live:
One of a select few to play with the great Miles Davis.
One of the few times he's not playing his custom Jazz with the built-in preamp:
Baby picture from 1983... he signed with WB as a solo artist, and they wanted a hit. *sigh*
He later re-recorded it on the soundtrack for the Richard Pryor movie "Busting Loose", with a much better lead singer -- Roberta Flack!
1986: Luther Vandross and Marcus had been running through NY, getting session and backup work.
They were in an R&B band that didn't catch on, but that all changed when "Never Too Much" tore up the charts.
After that, they were frequent songwriting, producing and session partners.
This is a video of Luther rehearsing with Marcus, along with keyboardist Nat Adderley.
Props to a multi-Grammy, multi-platinum artist, producer, songwriter and musician... hope I meet him someday!
