Earth, Wind & Fire has had various drummers over the years, a multitude of guitarists, and a slew of horn players...
but since their first album, they've only had one bassist.
Born July 25, 1951, Chicago Illinois USA; younger brother to group founder Maurice (and one of the 'various' drummers, Fred).
Clasically trained on the double bass in his youth by a member of the Chicago Symphony,
he claims James Jamerson, Paul McCartney and classical & jazz bassist Gary Karr as his primary influences.
Verdine also took electric lessons from fellow EW&F member Louis Satterfield,
a multi-instrumentalist who was trombonist in the group's acclaimed Phoenix Horns brass section.
