Headphone amps

Im going to college soon, and I need a decent headphone amp for my dorm. I figured I'd ask you folks what kind of great kinds are out there, since when referring to headphone amps I am lost.

It needs to be on a decent budget, maybe around 500 or so. Can somebody point me in the right direction for a hard rock sound?

Yeah those fancy looking HD ones look like they could do the trick. I could record my guitars on campus If I needed/wanted to.

I've been using amplitube on my ipod for the last month and it does the trick.
A full app: 10$ when i bought it but it's usually 20$
Irig: 40$
I have a feeling that the irig is dead simple to reverse-engineer but I' not home and can't do it now.

Is it the best out there? Probably not but it works great and cost me a total of 50$ +taxes...
