heavy humbuckers?

I recently got a B.C. Rich special edition Warlock, the stock humbuckers are alright, but my friend has a hot-rails in a strat, and that sounds way better than mine, i was thinking an invader or metal live-wire, i would mainly use the pickup for rythem and deep stuff at the neck, i know there both heavy metal and high output so im pretty split. Also, how would i put an active humbucker (live-wire) in my regular humbucker spot.

Thanks

Re: heavy humbuckers?

I'd say go with a Custom or Invader for bridge. The custom would be warmer and maybe a little tighter, but the Invader will be thicker. the Livewire metal doesn't sound too good as far as I've read and heard, and you apparently can't get a clean sound out of it unless it's the classic at the neck.

Re: heavy humbuckers?

For Humbuckers, honestly most medium to high output pups can do metal. It really depends on your amp. That being said it seems like a Distortion, Dimebucker (highly recommend this), or Custom would do the trick for you. Custom would probably be the most versitile with regards to getting a good clean sound, and probably has the lower output of the three. But I also think it has the most bass of the three too. I was never a big fan of the Invader, too muddy for my tastes.

Re: heavy humbuckers?

I think Invader (never played one) is similar to the HR if i'm right, I played an hotrail loaded squier strat - sounded good imo but i think it can get muddy thru some amps...

btw welcome to the forum!

if you like the Hot Rails, then the Invader is a very close tonal equivalent. IMO the Invader has a tad more midrange, it sounds warmer.

'heavy' is about gain, even a mild, polite, vintage output unit can pull off a heavy tone when the right amount of drive is dialled in.

Re: heavy humbuckers?

I think the Invader would sound like God in your Warlock. It'll make it nice and huge sounding.

Re: heavy humbuckers?

If you'd use if for heavy rhythm, I'd go with an Invader out of those two choices. However, I might look into the Custom or Distortion for a little more clarity.
