Well....I just took a step toward what I think will be many hours of enjoyment in years to come. I snagged a Gibson, my first, '95 Les Paul Studio off ebay this morning.
Can't wait to get it in my hands....

Re: Hello Gibson

Good for you! I've been giving much thought to owning one myself. After you play yours for a few days let us know what you think. I'd be interested to know. Have fun!

Absolutely, Mike.

It took me a long time to get to this point....I was just a hair away from buying a LP Classic a few months back, but decided to hold off. It was just the thought of laying down over a grand for an electric guitar. I could see it for a nice acoustic, but for an electric? I ended up buying a Fender Amer. Strat instead.
But I still had that craving for a real Pauly, and after discussing the Standard/Classic vs. Studio issue with a few forum-bud's here (Special thanks go out to 59 Paul - my man, Rob-Mo - for all his tutorials and support to date, AND to John, who's always there with an open ear and always points me in the right direction - you haven't failed me yet, 'bro!), I came to the conclusion that if a guy wasn't all pumped up about having all the bells and whistles of a more expensive model he/she could still have the sound and playability of a "Les Paul" for hundreds less.
I've played a few Studios and they always felt good to me, but that was a few years back when I still had it in my mind that I had to have either a Standard or a Custom.
I'm glad that I got over that mind set, and I know this Studio will be a great guitar for me.
I took a piece of advice from Scott F. on this one as well...."Buy the guitar that you'll keep forever"....
And I think I did!

Re: Hello Gibson

Very nice Bob....that will be a quality axe. I'm in the position you found yourself in. I feel like I have to have a Standard Flametop or a Premium Plus. I just somehow feel that I won't be happy unless I get the binding and the flame top...even though I know the studio's sound just as good for hundreds less.

Enjoy that beauty.

Thanks, Guys!

Except for liking the Les Paul look I got the same feeling, but the quest for this guitar began a couple of decades ago (feeling old now....lol) and involved a close buddy of mine (who also rocked the guitar) back in the late 70's who lost his life a few years ago. This axe will be known as "J.R." in honor of his memory.
Hopefully this guitar will act as a bridge spanning from his spirit to mine, maybe taking my style of playing to a new level. Who knows?

I know what you're talking about, Jeff. I had it firmly embedded in my head that a neck w/binding makes a guitar a faster player than a neck without it.
Funny how I don't feel that way when I play one of my Strats!
Hmmm....head games....lol
