Help, bridge pickup wiring issues

I recently swapped the 496R out of my Explorer and installed a new humbucker but when I did so My Screamin Demon got messed up. When I plug in the neck HB works fine, as it should, however, the SD is extremely weak and undistorted and cannot even be heard on the clean channel (when I plug into my tuner it will sometimes show the note value then dissappear on the high strings but will not even show anything on the low strings).

I resoldered the hot lead and that didnt do it. I stripped down the out of phase wire and resoldered it to ground with the bare and this still did not fix the problem. I also tried unwiring the neck pickup completely and just using the SD and that did not work either. Both pickups are grounded on the same pot, but this shouldnt make a difference right? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The odd thing is that the Demon was working great before this and I really hope it isnt an unfixable issue.

Re: Help, bridge pickup wiring issues

sounds like to me that the pickups don't match up in polarity. read this, I found it under FAQ's on the Seymour website:

Can Seymour Duncan pickups be mixed with other manufacturers' pickups?
Yes, Seymour Duncan pickups are compatible with other manufacturers' pickups. With Gibson and some other brands Seymour Duncan pickups are a direct replacement. With Fender and some other brands the polarity of one of the pickups needs to be changed, either by flipping a magnet or simply switching the hot and ground wire connections of the Seymour Duncan pickup inside the guitar.

When combining Seymour Duncan pickups with PRS pickups it is sometimes necessary to flip the magnet in the Seymour Duncan pickup and to use an alternate four conductor wiring.

Seymour Duncan active pickups are also not compatible with EMG active pickups unless some type of phase inverter is used.

I hope this helps

Re: Help, bridge pickup wiring issues

That out-of-phase thing only matters when you use it with another pickup. Not by itself. I would double-check to make sure the red and white wires are still soldered together. Thats an easy one to miss.

Re: Help, bridge pickup wiring issues

They still looked firmly attached to me, but I didn't re-do that solder, maybe I should. It just seems odd to me that the SD wasn't working even when I unwired the neck PUP.

Is it possible that the pot died and if so how would I check?

Re: Help, bridge pickup wiring issues

Ok so, I ended up busting out my meter and testing everything. What ended uo being the problem is that one of the stems on the volume pot wasnt working. So I switched it up and its good to go. Not sure if crappy electronics are to blame for that or what.
