And if you have any other amps to suggest that would be good.

Re: help choos a new amp

IMHO, Randall amps are great for the price for what they do. If you want a relatively inexpensive metal amp, Randalls are great. The cleans are okay at best, but the distortion can go from old-school Sabbath to crushing death and black metal.

That is the only one I can help you with. I don't know where you can play one.

Peace.

Re: help choos a new amp

IF you're not constrained by $$, Mesa Boogie is a good way to go, VERY versatile

Marshall (of course)

Re: help choos a new amp

Yeah what kind of budget are you on here, by the suggestions you made im assuming you're not on a very high one. Am i right?

Re: help choos a new amp

My advice with money constraint, is to get a older POD 2.0 on ebay, and run it through a fairly inexpensive combo with a insert jack to bypass any coloration.

Re: help choos a new amp

He'd need a pedal with a C30 or C50.

What's your budget? Then we can help.

Re: help choos a new amp

If your set on those choices, Id definatly suggest the Randall. I used to own one before i sold it to a metal head friend of mine. The cleans are very very god and the overdrive is great for a solidstate amp. If i had to chose a SS amp it would be randall. Beofre i switched to tubes I swore by randalls and played every other SS amp i could find. The randall beat them hands down. It can handle most things you want, from pristine cleans to overdriven classic rock on the first gain stage, to hard metal on the second. That being said, i currently own a Peavey classic 50(modded) and love it 10 times as much as the randall.
Good luck,
Brian

Re: help choos a new amp

If no budget, MESA/Boogie offers several models that will get you what you want. From Rectos all the way to Marks. Marshall does a pretty good job at versatility as well, although I'm not much for the lack bottom end tightness I've experienced through models such as the JCM2000 series. And I do love Crates for their wonderful price for tone.

Re: help choos a new amp

for that range, mmm, try to find a used marshall mg100

they sound great with dimebuckers, i might add
