Help extending a pickups leads

Hello all,

I recently decided to re install an old Sh2 Jazz pickup into a guitar of mine however after years of it being swapped in and out of guitars the wires have gotten a little too short! I know it is possible to extend them but I wanted some advice from anyone that had done this before.
Is there a specific wire type I should use for the extension?

I don't think it's necessary to replace it altogether. It would be a lot more work, not make any different in tone, and would risk breaking something in the process. I'd just solder a length of hookup wire between the pickup's remaining wire and wherever it's supposed to connect to, and close off the solder joint with heat shrink tubing. You put a little piece of the tubing around the solder joint and then use a cigarette lighter to get it hot and shrunken around the solder joint. It's much better than using electrical tape.

Becareful just extening them though. The heat shrink can get fat and make it so you cant pull the wires through the channels in the bodies... If its 4 conductor at minimum stagger the splices, you dont want a big knot of heat shrink you cant pull through.

Nothing special in the way of wire needed.
