Help!GT100 into fx loop=dead quiet

My friend got a Blackstar HT20 head. The fx loop works fine but when he connects any kind of device directly to the return jack, it's dead quiet.
So effect chains goes like this:
Guitar, input, send, modulation pedals, return. Works fine.
Guitar, Boss Gt100 or distortion pedals, return. Dead quiet.
Even when connect the guitar directly to the return jack, it's dead quiet.
What seems to be the problem here?

I see that the head has a series fx loop, not a buffered one, Could this be the reason why?

There is a sensitivity switch beside the fx loop...+4dB or -10dB
I suspect the GT100 has the +4dB requirement?

Definitely something to check. It's also possible that the loop has a switching jack that bypasses the loop if nothing is plugged into the effects send. To test this, plug your GT100 into the return and plug a different cable into the send; it doesn't even need to be connected to anything. If the loop is switched, you should start getting signal after plugging into the send.

To be honest, I'm surprised that he would still consider using a gt100 as a preamp.
I kinda blamed blackstar at first for not telling the users about this.
But again, who uses a multieffect as a preamp when you have a kick ass tube head.

Problem solved. The input jack is a switching jack, something must be plugged into this little hole in order to activate the power amp.
Wish it was written on the manual instead of the support page of their website.
