Help! I think I broke my amp...

:banghead:This concerns my Peavey Classic 20. I wanted to try out a new speaker, which means you have to take the chassis out to get the old speaker out of the cabinet. Not much room in there. Anyway, after I'd gotten it apart and switched out the speaker and put it back together, I turned it on and didn't get any sound. Then I realized I hadn't hooked up the speaker. Then I smelled something burning and saw smoke. Taking it apart again, I see there's what looks like a small ceramic cylindrical component, which looks blackened. When I touched it, it was very very hot. Isn't there something about not turning on a tube amp without a speaker load because you'll screw up something? Is that what happened? I haven't put it back together yet. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm betting a screen grid resistor. If you're lucky it was just that, and not the OT. Resistors are cheap. Get thee to a tech.

At least you'll never forget the "don't play a tube amp with no speaker load" rule again.

Hopefully blowing that resistor is all you did. Blowing the Transformer would suck. Always have a load on the amp
