Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

I'm getting old and my memory of things that should be solid in my mind is failing me.

So if we look at SD pups without considering their respective magnets or pole pieces (only looking at the actual winds), it is my recollection that (please correct me if I'm wrong, and please add other pups that you are sure about):

Distortion bridge = JB, =Invader;
Custom = C5=CC=C8, =Full Shred;
Distortion neck =Jazz.

Re: Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

Distortion neck is the Seymourizer bridge (SH-7), which was discontinued.

Re: Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

Thanks for the input on the DDn. Yes, of course, that makes sense.

Re: Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

There were some mentions of the Full Shred neck and Invader neck being Jazz winds with their respective polepiece and magnet mods. I remember reading some back and forth about it.

Also, the Black Winter Bridge might be in the same family as the Distortion/Invader/JB, although the coating on the wire looks different. This might be the same case for the Black Winter Neck and Distortion Neck.

AFAIK, the Stag Mag also falls within the JB family.

In all honesty, I also suspect the Whole Lotta Humbucker Neck and the '59 Bridge might be related, but this is just speculation on my part.

the wlh neck and 59b are very different sounding pups. if the bw has a different color wire, its safe to assume its a different pup

Re: Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

I thought the stag-mag was literally two strat style singles plopped on a 'bucker baseplate.

AFAIK the StagMag is a totally different animal than JB (individual magnet poles like a Strat).

the only pups that have been confirmed as the same wind are the custom/cc/c5 and the jazz/aph1

i kinda think the full shred is also the custom wind but cant be 100% sure. as far as the jb/distortion/invader... i dont know

I've been doing a lot of searching about the Full Shred the last day or two and there's a lot of dispute, but IIRC someone said it was confirmed that it's actually a slightly different wind than the custom and has a different DCR. don't know if I could find that post again though

Is the dimebucker in that family also? I've read some say it's just an Invader with rails and plastic housing. (?)

My Dime measures in at the mid 15k range and sounds NOTHING like an Invader.

Re: Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

I think jeremy is correct about the only 2 sets of pups having been confirmed. I suppose it's possible that the Full Shred could be the Custom. However I've spent a lot of time with the JB and Distortion and I'm positive they're separate winds. Try a Distortion with A5 and you can easily hear it. JB is clogged up in the mids, DD rings out clear top to bottom, DD has fizzy modern mids, JB is organic with Tele character, JB has attenuated top end, DD has true highs. Way too many obvious differences for them to be the same wind. As for the DDn being the jazz... well that's just retarded. DDn has mids, Jazz doesn't.

the ddn is also 12k and the jazz is 7.5k or something, very different pups

Re: Help, I've fallen and I can't get up!

Mine measures 16.43 which is about the same as the sh-8 invader is listed. My Invaders are tb-8 and as expected are higher dcr. (iirc the one I measured was around 16.9)

Now I agree they sound nothing alike in EQ, but they both have a crisp and aggressive ceramic character.

I admit I haven't cracked any pickups open ever, let alone these two which I find already awesome enough to not tamper anyways.

They both are listed at the same dcr, and both have triple ceramic mags.
Is the wire gauge different between the dime and invader? dcr is the same

Is it possible to sound that much different from using rails instead of huge poles, and using plastic housing instead of the standard SD baseplate design?

They say the custom5 and full-shred are the same wind, yet most would agree they sound much different, and that's only just from using different screw-types/lengths.

This is about all I know, as well. I am not sure they advertise much else.
