Hey,
first post - great forum! I have often been here, lots of interesting read!
I have an Ernie Ball Music Man Albert Lee SSS (swamp ash body, one piece maple neck / fretboard) that comes with a vintage tremolo. The guitar has SD APS II pickups as I understand it (apart from the bridge PU). I loved the AL as it was and the pickups, too - especially the in-between positions 2 and 4 as they sound somewhat different from a usual strat - although I couldn't describe in what way. But I like it. However, I want to sound a bit more traditional in the bridge and neck position. I love the Tele bridge twang and installed a Twang Banger in there. I like it! It's probably as much Tele as possible for a guitar that isn't a Tele. I also like the middle-bridge combination.
Although I like the stock neck PU in the AL, I want to sound more Strat-like here, think SRV or Hendrix. I know the two don't sound the same but it's not about having exactly the sound of those but that typical full strat growl and bark. I think the neck PU in the AL has quite a lot more twang than a typical strat, I think it's the upper mids that are very prominent. I could be wrong. Maybe I want less of those frequencies but more lower mids to make it sound fuller.
I once had a Fender CS 69 Set in there and didn't like it as much as the stock set. The neck PU however was more in the direction of what I want - if possible I'ld like to have even more of that perceived difference. I want to stick to Seymour Duncans cause I like the sound of the stock PUs - I guess I just want aother flavor PU from the same guys. I want a non staggered PU, that also works well with the middle PU so that I still have a nice in between sound of neck and midddle. I'ld like to keep the middle PU for the brigde-middle position. But if you convince me I of something else there I will try it.
That's the neck sound I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bShcJSDf0iQ
This one as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28MuRn9GqOc
My amp is a SF Deluxe Reverb.
Every help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you very much!
