Help me as I try to redesign the lead guitar

The series/parallel switch isn't going to work, because it leaves one coil hanging on the hot side of the circuit. Especially since you're feeding into a high-gain preamp. The three positions will be:

1. Series.
2. Hum and buzz with your favorite Christian/Spanish radio station.
3. Parallel.

I'm chewing on this now to see if there's a good way to do this.

Edit: There's nothing wrong with the Christian and/or Spanish radio station. I'm just guessing that's not what you want.

Edit 2: A push-push switch will give you "click-on" / "click-off." It won't give you the fast "stutter" affect usually associated with a kill switch.

I only see one way to do this. It isn't great, but it gives you what you're asking. It's also a little difficult to describe "on paper", so to speak. You'll need the 4PDT on-on-on switch that I link to below. If you click on that link, look closely at the "contact positions" diagram that's posted with the switch. You'd do exactly as BeauB's diagram shows, but his pickup wires connect to the C & D terminals on the right half of the switch. Then, on the A & B terminals, add two jumper wires over to the tip and sleeve terminals of the output jack. You'll also need to ass a jumper (green line) between the center A & B terminals. That will short out the output jack only when the switch is in the middle position.

You may note that this will "split" the humbucker in the middle, but it doesn't matter, because the output will be muted. Hope this makes sense. This switch:

Wired with this mod to BeauB's diagram:

Above, that's "add a jumper (green line)". Can't edit once I post a pic.

Shoot! And that one wire that goes to "ring", should go to sleeve.

im a big fan of those 4pdt on/on/on switches, but i use em to get series/split/parallel for two pups at once

Yup. But you have to be careful. Some, are like the Guitar Electronics one, with the middle contacts in sync. And others are like two switches side by side, with alternating contacts from left to right.

I missed that you were planning on putting a Hot Rails pup in a modified p-90 mounting ring. You will still need to do some routing or chiseling to get that pup to fit into the Jazz rout.

OK, I think I'm starting to get the whole picture. Correct me if I'm wrong: the Hot Rails pup is going into the bridge Jazz bass pup rout with a dog-eared p-90 mounting ring (converting a Strat single coil to a p-90). The neck Jazz bass rout will be used exclusively for the battery (no pup) with a dog-eared p-90 mounting cover over it. I think you could have avoided a lot of confusion and contention if you just would have explained things a bit better. You didn't need to resort to all of your name calling and accusations in your post #8. Your idea as I understood it was a complete fool's errand, but that's because you didn't clearly explain what you were doing.

You said that you "don't always have time to learn new things", (that's obvious), but in that same token, no I didn't look at any of your videos on Youtube...I don't have time to waste doing that. So sorry if I don't know all about you. You also know nothing about me. But FYI, I've been designing and making custom guitars from scratch for 20 years and designing and installing and soldering all of the electrical components. I actually am an expert at soldering and have taught classes. I know about modding because I've been there done that.

I admit that I was being sarcastic in my post #6, in an attempt to point out the fallacies of the project as I understood it. Sorry if it rubbed you the wrong way. But that was because you hadn't clearly explained what you were trying to do and I didn't understand all that you didn't say. You could have just explained it better in the beginning or corrected my misunderstanding instead of calling me names. That was very juvenile and rude

So, if you want my help you can ask for it. If not then I'm totally fine with that too.
