help me find a singlecoil-sized humbucker!

I have an HSS Strat and I absolutely love it. I play metal mostly and the neck singlecoil isn't really suited for it. Especially being a les paul dude, I prefer those fatter tones from the neck... I still like to hear a lot of attack for the solo's though.
I love the atomic humbucker in the bridge, to my surprise I won't ever need to replace it. There shouldn't be much of a volume drop when going from bridge to neck, the atomic is, from what I've read, similiar to a JB.

I've been looking at the DiMarzio Cruiser or the hot rails from Seymour Ducan, what do you guys recommend? Maybe even the lil 59?

PS: I absolutely love Pontus Norgren, lead guitar for hammerfall, and he appears to be playing a dimarzio of some sort (cruiser?) and I really dig his tone but I wanted to hear your experiences

thank you!

Sounds like the Lil 59er neck is right up your alley.

I really like the Little 59 in the neck.

What your describing sounds a little more like a Hot Rail. For DiMarzio, look at the Fast Track 2. The Cruiser is a little more like a fat single coil...listen to some Andy Timmons for an example of the Cruiser.

Hot Rails. If you are used to a much thicker sound, with a lot more output, the Hot Rails neck is a wonderful choice, and will give the LP a run.

Re: help me find a singlecoil-sized humbucker!

I have two hot rails in my strat(no middle pickup) and I got to say I love the hot rails in the neck postion, it sounds amazing, it has such a thick crunchy sound. It is such a great metal pickup, cleans aren't awesome though.

Re: help me find a singlecoil-sized humbucker!

A Lawrence L-250 might also do the trick. I have one in the middle position of mey HSH and it plays nice with my Duncans.

Re: help me find a singlecoil-sized humbucker!

Splitting the difference -- and for something full yet balanced and not super hot -- you might also look at the DiMarzio Chopper.

It's unique in that it's not a single pretending to be a humbucker, nor is it trying to be a P90 or vintage single, for that matter. It's really its own thing and has a responsive yet meaty sound that's good for overdriven solos. The cleans are warm, round, and clear without ever getting boomy. Splits very well with a traditional middle pickup, too.

To give you an idea of the output, I have one balanced against an EVO2 in a HS arrangement. I couldn't ask for a better volume match or wider palette of rock/blues/jazz tones in that guitar.

(Edit: Suggested because the OP mentioned the Cruiser, which is really a single coil sound.)

I am right now putting together a Tele-style guitar that will end up with either a Lawrence L90 (8 henries model) or a Super Distortion in the bridge. Would the chopper hold up, volume-wise, with either of those full-size humbuckers if I put it in the neck position? I am intrigued.

This. I have it, like it much. It can approximate a neck SC or HB sound with the right EQ & Gain settings on the amp. It can keep up with most hot output buckers in the bridge, it can also be kept much closer to the strings.

The Satch Track maybe an improvement of it but with Chopper think Bumblefoot. Its awesome with high gain.

It will almost keep up with a superD, I forgot, its been a while since I had that combo in my strat, but possibly yes unless the super D is raised too close to the strings, like </=2mm close.

Re: help me find a singlecoil-sized humbucker!

Check out haeussel pickups from Germany,i've had the tone zone and the hotrail. Then i bought a haeussel railpickup, it eats hotrails and tonezone's for breakfast seriously.
