Help me get my Retrorocket quacking

Hi everyone,

First post.:newbie:

I am after some advice for a middle pickup upgrade for my ~2007 Fernandes Retrorocket Elite.

For these unfamiliar guitar this is it: https://www.leihinstrumente.com/Guitars/Electric-Guitars/Fernandes-Retrorocket-Elite-Str.html

The guitar currently has the stock SD Hot Rails (bridge) / Fernandes Rail (middle) / Fernandes Sustainer (neck) configuration.

I am happy with the SHR in the bridge and want the keep the Sustainer in the neck. There is a bit of an imbalance between the two ie: the SHR is hotter than the Sustainer when it is working as a normal pickup.

The Fernandes Rail is ok, but I want the get a decent quack sound in position 2.

I am constrained by the Sustainer wiring arrangement:

I have done my research and it seems like my best option is as follows:
1. Use a push-pull pot so I can switch the SDHR from series to either parallel or split when I switch to position 2. Advice on which one (parallel or split) woul dbe appreciated.
2. Replace the middle pick up with a medium output alnico with lowish mids and a highish treble response. I am thinking medium to match both the neck and bridge when it is parallel/split.
3. Make sure all the pots are 500k (I’m not sure what they are atm)

Appreciate thoughts on the above and any suggestions for the middle pickup - particularly whether it needs to be RWRP.

Thanks for that
With regard to my quest to improve the position 2 quack sound, what would be the difference between the ssl2/ssl6 and a classic stack?
