I am loading my only strat with a CC in the bridge and want two hum cancelling duncans for the neck and middle?
i know NOTHING about single coils but that normally they are NOISY
I was thinking cool rails in the neck and a vintage rails in the middle spot?
i want the most quack and funky tone i can get when plaing clean in positions 2 and 4 of the 5 way switch? and when playing dirty i would like a P-90 type tone(single coil like but fatter and hotter)
i will wire up the CC to be tapped(slug side on only) with the vintage rails in postion 4
I am slowly starting to really dig strats and the tones they posses

my dear friend. look for a set of bardens. Gene would approve.

You really couldn't go wrong with your CR/VR idea. I love that combo. The VR will be a bit lower output than the CR though. But still, they both have a great sound.

Re: help me pick two singles to go with a CC?

Have you thought of th Hot Stack? Remember that you can't split the VR, so position 4 won't be hum cancelling with a split CC.

Re: help me pick two singles to go with a CC?

Yea, the hotstack would be a great idea.

To bad they don't make humcanceling Qps, thoes would be the best possible thing for ya, but if you can put up with a little hum, it shouldn't be an issue.

I don't mind hum till I try to run a single coil with the gain peged at max volume.

i like your idea alot (CR/VR/CC) ... that, or wait for the new stacks that will be out in the fall

Artie is right about the CR's or VR's, both would do what you want but I think the Stacks would be a little more Stratlike. I like my Classics's but cant vouch for the Hot's,but they may be a good match with output of a CC.The CR's and Vr's are both Humbuckers too so humcancelling in pos 2&4 shouldnt be an issue. I'm about to put a Custom together with my Classics in a Strat soon too.

Re: help me pick two singles to go with a CC?

I got to try the new stacks (I don't know if I'm supposed to reveal the name).

They're more like Fender Noiseless than rails type pickups.

I think the combo you'll like best is CC/Cool Rails/Cool Rails. I say two CR's because neck and middle pickups seem best when they're identical in tone and output.

Right now, I've got a guitar with C-5/HR/HR and I feel like I made a mistake. I wish I could do it over and get two CR's.

As you can see from my sig, I did that, plus one step farther. Only, I used a bridge CR for the middle, and wired it in parallel. That way, its ouput balances with the others, but I still get a different tone. Great combo.

Re: help me pick two singles to go with a CC?

I like to adjust the middle pickup on a Strat so that it's lower than the others and stays out of the way of my picking hand. Would the bridge CR be better than the neck CR for the middle slot in that case?

Re: help me pick two singles to go with a CC?

I think that'll be a great combo. It's pretty close to the CC/HR/CR setup in my Peavey. Here's what it sounds like, if you're interested. I need to go back and record some more clips in different positions.

I can't say for sure, but thats probably a good bet. I have my neck and middle set at about 4.5mm below the strings, and my bridge up a tad higher, at about 3mm below the strings.

Those are measured at the D/G string.

Twangbanger might not be a bad idea -- if you find it's a little too hot for the mid or neck positions, you can open it up and take 500 or 1,000 turns off it or however much 'til it's just right.
