Help me read amp schematics

Okay, so there's this website called Schematicheaven.com which has all the amp schematics you could ever want. The one I'm trying to read is the Soldano SLO-100: http://www.schematicheaven.com/newamps/soldano_slo100.pdf
as you could probably tell, I'm a bit of a newcomer when it comes to electronics and stuff, and before you ask, no I'm not planning on building this any time soon because of that. I was just wondering if anyone can give me any tips on how to read this, or maybe websites where I can get instructions on how to read this. Thanks in advance.

Re: Help me read amp schematics

Well what do you know so far?

Do you know the uses of different components? Such as Resistors, Capacitors, Tubes, diodes, coils/transformers/inductors, etc etc? I'm sure anything googled on that would be usefull.

Once you know those you can identify them in that schematic pretty easily.

This not be the greatest thing to start at though.

Have you modded simpler circuits like a pedal or preamp or something?

Re: Help me read amp schematics

You need to buy a few books...basic stuff at first then you can get more in depth.

I could fill up pages and pages of stuff in a forum setting and you still might not know where to start.

Re: Help me read amp schematics

I do so like schematic heaven :)
As advised above if your new to electronics start on small stuff, maybe build overdrive pedal or similar.
first learn to identify components, most are pretty simple; oblong box is a resister, two parralel lines a capacitor, big round thing with many connections is a valve, triangle with a line at the end with two connections is a diode, oblong with a arrowed line through it is a variable resistor.

Re: Help me read amp schematics

Others have already said it. If you do not even know how to read the basic schematic symbols, you need to start there. Then read up on Basic Electronics, Basic Electricity, Basic AC and DC Circuits........
You get the idea. It is all available for free, at your finger tips, on the INTERNET.
Good Luck

Hey thanks guys, and yeah I'm definitely not going to build the soldano (right now anyway) I was just using it as an example. I'll definitely try and get some books or at least google this stuff. Thanks.

If you don't own this book, do yourself a favor and buy it.

Here's a trick for learning it. Go to fender amp field guide. Find an amp and download the schematic as well as the layout. Then compare the two.

Stuff like this is easy to find.here's some very common symbols you'll find in amps..

I searched for "schematic symbols".

Re: Help me read amp schematics

If your interested in guitar amp circuits, then figure out the 5F6A Fender bassman circuit first. Its the foundation of almost all of the ones after ward. If you understand the 5F6A then you will understand Marshalls, and then Soldanos and so forth....
