So, I know I am probably going to go with a custom parts Strat. I really want a roasted maple neck with SS frets, staggered tuners to eliminate string tree and a flatter radius. Because of this, I am simply going to build a guitar. A super high end Carvin BOlt is also not out of the question.
I really dislike tremolo unites, aside from double locking units, as I am annoyed greatly by each setup always having its own compromise. If a vintage system or 2 point nonlocking could come back into tune perfectly and not have any strings go flat/sharp when doing bends, Id be down. However, I am looking at a hardtail or am considering using my 2 point Hipshot tremolo and tremsetter, as I have on another guitar, for this project.
One of my questions is about the playability of a hardtail versus a trem with a tremsetter? Does anyone have the ability to compare? My hipshot with tremsetter guitar stays in tune like a champ, but it does feel pretty stiff for when I go to bend strings.
Additionally, can anyone recommend what bridge routing to go with for either Warmoth or USACG? Both specify several hardtail options. I would like to choose one that provides the most possible options for aftermarket choices. I love Hipshot products and know USACG offers a routing for that, but isn't that just the same thing as routing for an American STD hardtail? Please school me on this. I've also been reading that the Warmoth vintage flatmount hardtial routing is for bridges with wide string spacing. I'd like to avoid ending up with a guitar that has strings riding right on the edge of the board.
