Help, my Bass pot on my Twin Tube Classic is dead.

Hi,

I haven't posted here much in the past, but I need some help. Please go easy on me!

I've had a SFX-03 Twin Tube classic for a number of years, and I love it.

The Bass pot now rotates pretty freely, and doesn't do much to the tone anymore. The pedal otherwise works fine, and is still useable, but I'd like to have it working fully again.

I've built half a dozen pedals for myself, and I've also built an 18watt Marshall clone, which I use (mostly clean, with the SFX-03 giving two more channels to a single channel amp).

Is there any way I can find out the part number for the surface mounted Bass pot on the PCB within? I'd be happy to just take it out and replace it with the same. I know that this is a probably a trade secret. I could always take it out and measure it, but I'd like to replace it with as little fuss as possible, and without having the pedal out of action for a long time (did I mention that I love it?).

I've got the top off the pedal, and looking at all of the pots, the printed values on the sides of them have pretty much all rubbed off, so I can't read them.

I would, of course make any change to this device at my own risk, with no liability to anyone else.

Can anyone help me?

Hi,

The knob isn't loose, it's definitely the post that is revolving.

Not so much a trade secret but it could be a custom pot. A lot of our pedal's pot's are custom runs. We'd be glad to send you one, assuming you're in the US. Otherwise we may have to use a distributor. Call in to Customer Service if you need to. We can take it in and repair it as well. If you do the work yourself of course the warranty is void and also we don't recommend anyone work on high voltage tube pedals unless they're qualified. But having said that, if we sent you a pot we would assume it would be for installation by someone qualified.

Thanks for replying.

I'm in the UK. This was one of the first SFX03's that came into the country. I'm happy (and sensible) enough to work on valve stuff having built myself a nice valve amp. The only problem is getting a replacement pot of the same size and orientation (over here).

At the moment, I still have use of the bass pot, although it is limited.

I assume that the pot costs a few US$. This would be a really cheap fix if I can get my hands on one.

Simon.
