Help! Need A Pedal Wiz!

Got a used Boss DS-1 on ebay. The LED won't light, and I'm not getting much gain. The previous owner had "modded" it ( ) but I guess he didn't do such a great job.

I performed my mods on it, but I'm still lacking in gain, volume, and a working LED. Anyone know the DS-1 really well?

Send it to me and I'll mod and fix it right up for you...Sounds like a diode to the LED went bad and or the LED and you have other problems also...

id say check solders, look at a schematic, and if anything loks wrong, old, or beat up, replace it

A brand new DS1 can be bought for $39 normally at Musician's Friend if yours is really screwed up? Too much heat and your board is history or you can crack the board pretty easily unless you really know what you're doing! ;)

I'd take STRATDELUXER97 up on his offer, my friend. John knows the DS-1 inside and out.

Thanks Robert and Bob...So where is this forum member and his DS1? Hope I didn't scare him away with my prices? :D This could be my good deed of the day if I fix this forum buddy's DS1....:D

Don't know where he went.... :?:

His profiles say he does pedal mods...I have some competition maybe? :D Bet he makes some money at it judging from my prices? Glad it's just a fun and helpful hobby or I'd starve to death! :D

Hey John, he ran down to UPS !!! He's gonna be waitin in the Morning when they open LOL You'll probably get the pedal next day air :)

YIKES!!!

I'm still here guys! Geeze! :D

But in the meantime I did mangage to squeeze more gain and volume out of my pedal, so I'm getting happy. :D

SPG, beleive me, I'm NOT competition for you. All I've got for mods is a Blues Driver and a Distortion (and as you can see, I might need a little work with that one!) :D

Your prices are pretty good though. I'm gonna go see what I can do about that LED...

Smiles!

My comment about competition was just a tongue and cheek joke...I'm not trying to make a living by doing mods for $30 a pedal..It's really all about helping all of you guys if you like...Do what you do buddy,it's all good by me..;) Maybe you should stick to just being a good coffee drinker! :D Just messing with ya buddy....Send me your e mail address so I can show you what a real modded board looks like without those yucky tantalatum caps you use! :D My prices on the mods is way cheap my friend..

Hey SD97!,
Could you tell me the difference in tone and components(ic chip, resitors, etc.) in a Made in Japan DS-1 and a new DS-1?
I just picked up a slightly beat up MIJ DS-1 for $21.00 the other day and I have a later model DS-1.
I haven't had a chance to do really good A/B comparison yet.
Thanks!

whats wrong with tantalum? they sound fine, if used properly. especially the wet tantulum types. kinda pricey, though. 22uf/25v is 14.40 each from mouser.
