help,need high end

hey all, almost have a blissful blob of heaviness but somethings not quite right :gurmpy:

i'am a bit confused, hope someone can set me straight.
first off i have wired in a duncan detonator in my on old charvel.
it has a neck pu,bridge pu (detonator)cts 500k's 1 tone and 1 volume 3 way toggle with a .022 cap.

now the neck pu is not the issue it's the bridge.
the rhythm sounds pretty thick and heavy however for leads it's starting to grate on my nerves, too muddy.
i want to add more high end but still keep some of the rhythm low end.

heres my confusion....to do this what would be the best route to go down, should i....

a. change to a higher cap? if so which one?
b. change to a 1 meg pot?...if so what do i change,tone,volume or both?
c. change to a higher cap,and 1 meg pot?

help me on my quest for blissful blob-ness,please lol
thanks

Re: help,need high end

Its the pickup - too much mids. a lower cap or a meg pot would help - but probably not as much as you care for.
I would look into a Duncan Distortion (if you want less mids) or a Alt8 (if you want mids and bass, but less mud)

If you put a higher cap on all that will do is make it get muddier quicker as you roll the tone back. Maybe a magnet swap would be in order or maybe a slight mod to the tone stack of your amp to help boost its highs.

Swap the Ceramic magnet for an AlNiCo 8. The Duncan Designed "Deton8r" is my favorite Duncan pickup.

Here's a *very* detailed swap:

Obviously you can skip the parts about the wax potting and removing the cover. :)

Basically - you loosen the 4 screws on the bottom, pull the baseplate slightly off the coils, slide the old magnet out, and slide the new magnet in. Since you've got a double thick ceramic in there and would be replacing with a thinner A8, you'll need to check the spacers on the sides. On my Detonator the spacers were doubled, so I just pulled them out, split them, and put the spacers in singly. Other people have stated that the spacers on some pickups can be turned on their sides to adjust the height. Tighten the screws on the bottom, and reinstall the pickup. No need to disconnect the pickup from the guitar, all I do is loosen the strings to get it out, and then pop it back into place and tune back up.
