Help needed PU for resonator

I have a Republic wood body biscuit style resonator, that had a stock single coil pickup, which I didn't like and pulled . I routed additional space in the top for a humbucker and currently have a Duncan '59 installed. I didn't modify the electronics on the guitar. It's a little dark but my real problem is a tendency to feedback at louder volumes probably due to do hollow design of the guitar . The band reject filter on my Sansamp acoustic Di really doesn't help. Any suggestions on a different Duncan pickup that may help with my issue? Thanks

Hmm... Yeah, the hollow body probably is a good chunk of the feedback issue... A Benedetto pickup may work well...

i doubt a different pup will help unless this one needs to be repotted

No this not microphonic feedback. Anybody ever try the Full Shred pickup in a resonator? This p/u the same mid response and much less bass response than the '59.

I don't think a pickup change is going to fix feedback. What you're getting is resonating feedback - the same issue that led Gibson to develop semihollow bodies with a central beam. You'll need to either change your stage setup so that you're using in-ear monitoring and no stage monitors (the same way Allison Krauss and Union Station setup), or stuff some foam or something inside the body to dampen resonance. This won't effect your amplified sound much, but will effect your acoustic tone. Or you can add a feedback killer pedal to your signal chain (which is probably your best bet).

Or you can get a solidbody resonator guitar.

Largely the nature of the beast. They call them resonator guitars for a reason. The resonator cone picks up vibrations from loud sounds just as well as it produces vibrations, a feedback loop par excellence. Resos are feedback monsters at higher volume levels. A different pickup won't change that.
You could look at the National Resolectric or copies thereof; very little internal volume for feedback there, though even they will still feed back at high levels.

Now, the fact that it's a little dark can probably be fixed by using a Pearly Gates, instead.
