Help on making strat into fat-strat

Well ive just purchased a Tokai strat in which i shall be recieving tomorow. To give it the extra balls ive also bought a seymour duncan custom sh-5. Now all i need to do is buy a new pickguard for it. Im not sure which one to buy though. This is because of there being 2 different humbucker hole shapes. Theres one with straight square corners, and another with rounded corners. Which one should I buy?

ps: please tell me if theres more to it than jsut chaning the pickguard and pickup.

Either one will work as the humbuckers edges are nice and round fender used to use the squared off one but now use the one with round edges its just a matter of looks.

Before you buy the pickguard and pickup make sure that it is routed to accept one, otherwise you'll have to get it routed out adding more money to the project or go to a single coiled size HB.


I would also suggest you put a coil tap on it so you can get a SC sound if you want.

one thing you might want to look at is whether the pickup is spaced for a strat style guitar. you CAN use a gibson spaced pickup normally with a little tonal compromise on the e strings, angle it (i.e. van halen) or you could just buy the trembucker version which would line up correctly.

the Pickup is NOT f-spaced (not a trembucker) so just either angle it or live with not having the high e string line up with the poles.
