HELP: P-Rails wiring for 3 way Rotary Control?

Hi,

Sorry that my first post on here is a request for help with a potentially complex question. I've read through quite a few posts on the forum and although I haven't found anything that deals with the issue I have, I have realised that there are some very skilled people out there who may be able to help.

So, here's the deal.... I have a Patrick Eggle Berlin which as standard has a volume control, a 3 way rotary control (where you'd expect to see a tone) and a 3 way toggle. I bought a set of P-Rails to fit in this guitar and hope to keep the layout and controls as standard as possible, i.e. use the 3 way rotary to give options for P90 (outer coils), humbucker (both coils) and single coil rail (inner coils). Early Berlins were wired like that as standard but mine is a later model that offers a different configuration (pos. 1 = forward coils, pos. 2 = humbuckers, pos. 3 = all coils in some kind of enhanced single coil setting).

I can solder, but I don't understand wiring, so at present I have the P-Rails fitted and have simply copied the old wiring which isn't giving me the range of options I was hoping for (although it does sound great). So at present I'm getting:
Rotary position 1 = neck P90 / bridge rail
Rotary position 2 = humbuckers
Rotary position 3 = all coils doing something different to humbuckers

Is anyone able to help me out with a simple diagram to show what I need to do to get P90s in position 1 and Rails in position 3?

I'll attach a PDF showing a rudimentary diagram of how the wiring is now (at the bottom) and a picture of the cavity in case anyone recognises the 3 way rotary...

Hey Matt; I'll take a gander at this as I have time, but there's two things here that make this a bit difficult:

1. Not all 3-way's are created equal. Your PDF does a pretty good job of showing how yours probably works.

2. You appear to have black and green soldered together. Thats ok, but its a bit unconventional. I'll need to sort that out.

Stay tuna-ed. ;)

No prob. It works that way. It just makes me need to think. I hate when that happens. :D

Re: HELP: P-Rails wiring for 3 way Rotary Control?

Massive thanks to ArtieToo but almost by fluke I managed to find a wiring diagram for the exact switch that I have and the exact same options I'm looking for, so the conclusion to this thread is that my Patrick Eggle Berlin's rotary switch now offers the following:
Forward position = Single coil rails
Middle position = Humbuckers
Rear position = P90s

I know it's not offering the full range of P-Rail options, but without having to change any of the pots/switches it does give a really great range of tones.

Hey Matt; Glad to hear you found a solution. With all the holiday cheer going on, I forgot about this thread. :blackeye:
