Have a major problem here folks! My neighbor installed a freaken 30 ft antenna for his cb hobby. I'm picking him up loud and clear through my amp! This is quite annoying to say the least. My questions are.....why is this occuring? also what can I do to stop it???

Thanx!
Tom

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

i know that you can pick up radio signals through your amp if the wires arent shielded properly, my friend found this out one day while tuning his guitar and accidentally started hearing some russian radio station coming from his amp! i really don't know anything about what you could do to fix it though, maybe have the wires shielded better in order to keep the frequencies of your neighbours radio from interferring.

Go out in the middle of the night and either chop that damn aerail down or blow it up. :newangel: Either that or go and ask your neighbour that he is causing radioactive sickness and that you'll need at least $2-3000 to upgrade all your gear!!

My thoughts exactly! hehehe ...what's worse is this guy just moved here from puerto rico! so imagine spanish blasting through your amp. I spoke with a few other folk and there may be a violation here. Meaning he could be broadcasting too strong which can obviously interfere with air traffic. I know there's laws against this. I was hoping I could purchase something to scramble or filter the bs out. :yell:

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

actually, its quite normal. and im 95% possitive it doesnt have anything to do with the antenna.

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

as a recovered amateur radio operator, i can attest that (sadly) it is your problem, not his ... a lot of times, the high power transmission couples onto metal pipes that are nearby (the pipes act as a receiveing antenna) ... and frequently, these pipes are used to 'ground' electrical circuits, so the coupled RF propagates up the circuit to the amplifier ... the FCC regulates that electric equipment must be appropriately shielded against unwanted radio transmissions ... it is not his fault if your gear is not getting the job done ... it is reasonably easy to mitigate with a power filter / surge protector ...

good luck

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

I used to get French radio when I used to have a crybaby.

Was much more intresting than my playing at that time :D

i dissagree with everyone

the best thing to do

as the band weezer did on its second album named pinkerton.

on a song called falling for you in the intro the amp picked up an oriental sounding radio station, which worked well in the oreintal theme of the song.

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

god i loved pinkerton

best shirt i ever saw said "Pinkerton was NOT a failure!"

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

I had a rocktron 50 that did that. It picked up up some spanish or mexican station. I thought it was kind of funny to listen to at first. After a while I wanted to pitch the thing out of the window. Its a shielding problem. Or lack of shielding would be more correct.

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

Just cover the whole thing in shielding tape.

The whole thing being your house... :D

Re: HELP!....picking up radio frequencies

Thanx for all the input folks! My guitar is shielded, my outlets grounded.guess my 5150 sux???......NAH! I have all my gear...what little I have....a boss gt3 & amp plugged directly into the wall.....I'll have to borrow my buds furman and see if that clears things up.

Cheers :burnout:
