Help Please! Amp Problem.

Hey guys, I recently replaced the speaker in my Blues Junior and I have started to encounter some problems. The speaker works, but when I hit a very loud note or a chord the speaker starts to act up. First, the volume may go in and out and eventually the only sound I get is some kind of static. If I turn the amp off and back on, the sound goes away and it is fine until I hit another loud note. I thought the problem may have been the connectors that attach to the speaker terminals. I have not soldered them on, but I tried to tighten them up with pliers. Would loose connectors cause a problem like this? Or maybe it was something that happened in the disassembly of the amp? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the loose speaker connector thing is risky .. if the load goes out on the OT, it could cause damage

i am sure that other guys will be along with more ideas

good luck

Re: Help Please! Amp Problem.

Sounds like an intermitent problem with one of the wires that connects to the voice coil. I don't know if it can be fixed...but it sounds like time for a new speaker.

Re: Help Please! Amp Problem.

Something's loose. Could be anything. Could be a loose connection to the speaker or a broken speaker wire that's broken inside the plastic insulation. Could be a loose tube or a loose part on the circuit board or a bad solder joint somewhere. If you just replaced the speaker I'd start with the speaker or the connections to it. Wiggle them around and see if you can isolate the problem. Lew

Re: Help Please! Amp Problem.

On closer inspection I found a loose connector on the circuit board. It's more than halfway off and I think this might be the problem as opposed to the speaker connectors. It must have come loose when I disassembled the amp to put the speaker in. Anyways, I wondered if you guys have any tips to get those connectors firmly on the posts. The connector doesn't seem to want to go on the post and I don't want to force it. Thanks for all the help so far.
