this is on the floyd rose in my jackson, the screws that go into the body and hold the spring claw. they are philips head screws and one already had slightly rounded off corners when i got the guitar and i think i managed to finish it off because now i cant turn it at all.

ive got a screw i can use to replace it but i cant get the old one out and there isnt enough room for me to get anything in there to cut it with. so what can i do now? :boggled:

Re: help please.. stripped a screw head

1) small vise-grips

2) dremel or file the sides of the screw's head and then use pliers / vise-grips to turn the screw

Dremel a single slot into the head and use a straight screwdriver.

I have a set of these screw extractors from Sears that work really well. However, I don't know if you'll be able to angle a drill in there to get a spring-claw screw.

Failing that, I think the small visegrips idea is the best, maybe combined with cutting the head off first - that lets you get the spring claw out of your way.

Please please try the screw extractor thing from sears first. I've used them many times on different projects and they're a life saver. If done properly, they will back that screw out without leaving a mark.
