Help! Power Amp Question

I have (well my college has) a Crown CE1000 power amp. On the back of the amp there is a switch that switches between Stereo and Bridge. If I am running two Carvin 1588, 800W speakers, should the switch be on Stereo or bridge?

Re: Help! Power Amp Question

are you just using them as subs? the cabs are 4 ohms each, i dont think the amp can handle a 2 ohm mono bridge load

so if you run stereo youll get 450w per side or so

Re: Help! Power Amp Question

Are you running a stereo (left channel and right channel) or mono signal? Judging by this and the monitor question, if you could put everything together in one post including a list of what you have and what you are trying to achieve, it would be easier to walk you through this stuff. It would also be helpful if you could include speaker load (ohms) and minimum load ratings for the amps so we wouldn't have to look everything up.

Make sense?

Re: Help! Power Amp Question

You've got to know the impedance of the speakers and how they're wired. A bridged amp will theoretically deliver up to 4 times the power, but it has to deliver twice the output current, so it's working much harder. Most amps will run out of steam, which is why if they're lucky they'll double the power when bridged. In effect, to a total 8 ohm load, a bridged amp "thinks" its playing into a 4 ohm load. I wouldn't go lower than that with a bridged amp. Also, never ground the negative output of a bridged amp - it's not a ground anymore - it's a hot with opposite polarity of the positve output.
