help removing tone knob?

I bought a small hex key wrench thinking it would remove my tone knob so I could service my guitar but, it didnt. Anything i'm doing wrong? Am I supposed to move something in the control cavity or what? Thanks.

. Pull off the knob. Use pliers to loosen the nut on the outside of the guitar. Remove the pot. Unsolder and wires to it. Your done. If it was the ground then ground everything on the volume pot

Thanks, just wasnt sure wether or not brute force was the way to go.

Take a shirt of a cloth and fold an edge onto it. Put the edge in the area between the knob and the body or pickguard and then twist it around so that it totally surrounds it. Once you have a solid grip this way pull up slowly.

Doing this will mean you're less prone to pulling from one side and breaking the shaft on the pot.
